    Hello Everyone,

I live in Searcy and I met some of you at the January meeting here at the Fish Bowl. I currently have a 20g high which is currently in limbo. I have a sump built and made my own overflow but I think I'm going to buy one as the one I made does not have the volume of flow I want.

    Here's the specs.
    20g High
    Seaclone 100 Skimmer
    Fish
    • 2 Ocellaris Clownfish[/*:m:rrdx7vhn]
    • 1 Green Clown Goby[/*:m:rrdx7vhn]
    • 1 Flametail Blenny[/*:m:rrdx7vhn]

The tank has been running for 3+ years and I think it's kind of past it's prime. The overflow I built was a siphon style overflow, but I think now I'm going to try and get a 20g long and drill that and switch tanks. So if anyone has a 20L in good condition I'm interested. I'll start a WTB thread in the classifieds section.

I've been on the forum Nano-reef.com since the beginning and have a detailed tank thread there. Go here to see it.

Here's a picture of my tank in it's prime.

In that picture I have 150W MH and 130W CF actinic. For the first 2 years or so I had just 130 W CF. Yeah I think that's the same dimensions of my tank which is a 20H. 20L is as tall as a or a little taller than a 10 gallon, just longer.

    Yeah I remember you

Make sure your glass isn't tempered before you drill. Many small tanks use all tempered glass. Hit me or grimmet up and we can walk you through an overflow that will easily flow 300+gph for about $20. That's plenty of turnover, I'm running it on a 46 bowfront and it is great. He is running on 3 tanks, one of which is a 90gal.

Just out of curiosity why don't you move up to bigger than a 20? I have a 46 bowfront and I can't wait till I move up over 100. Would like to do 200+ but $$$$$$.

    Bigger tank = more $

I'd love to have a rimless shallow tank around 40~50 gallons but I'm gonna be spending a semester in Australia in the Fall (Harding University student). I need to save over the summer and I have no job now.

As long as the overflow looks professional, takes up minimal space in the display, and can keep up with a Mag 3 return with about 3 feet headhight I will def look into it.

The only part you will see in the display is 3" pvc (can be painted black with krylon) topped with a 3" to 4" coupler. It will look as pro as you want it. And mine keeps up with a mag 7 with a 3 foot head.

I see the design in the DIY thread, but I feel like a 3" dia. pipe will take up a lot of space. The overflow I built is made from PVC, and honestly after building the thing (which wasn't complicated) and having it not be adequate I'm sick of measuring, cutting, fitting, and gluing PVC.

I like a box style overflow. Has anyone around here built their own?
