  1. [center:tz3f412c]REEF FEST 2010[/center:tz3f412c]

This year Reef Fest 2010 will be held in Searcy, AR hosted by the Fish Bowl. This long standing local fish store in Searcy has been a sponsor of Razorback Reef for many years, holding the first club meeting at a local fish store back in 2005. Reef Fest will welcome John Coppolino, hailing from northern Virginia, as our guest speaker. John has a special passion for the fish that occupy our reef tanks with particular enfaces on Centropyge angelfish which have a bad rap for being called "non-reef safe". Our workshop will offer some fantastic corals of varying varieties and our raffle will feature the largest grand prize to be given away at any Razorback Reef event - a 125 gallon Reef Ready Tank. Our host, Fish Bowl will be have numerous specials on livestock in honor of our distinguished guest from Virginia that you will not want to miss out on. Space is limited for this event - you can sign up online (starting Oct. 1st), at Oct.'s meeting in Hot Springs or at the Fish Bowl in Searcy.

    [center:tz3f412c]John Coppolino Bio[/center:tz3f412c]

John Coppolino's innate passion for fish was nurtured growing up on an island on a lake in Northern New Jersey with a fish loving father and a mother allergic to everything with fur and feathers! A saltwater hobbyist since age 11, John began working at a large regional aquarium store as soon as he obtained working papers in high school, and in college went on to study reef fish in Bermuda and the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador where he lived (and met his wife!) for about two years after obtaining his B.S. in biology.
John now lives in Northern Virginia with his wonderfully supportive wife and two young children, and keeps over 1000 gallons of saltwater aquariums loaded with reef fish including over thirty angelfish, his personal favorite. John travels yearly with work to Hawaii and Guam, where most free time is spent underwater! John writes articles and has spoken at conferences and reef clubs for years, and has had his reef systems profiled in multiple books and publications.

    Re: REEF FEST 2010 - November 20th

the way the last one worked I went to there were multiple cups on the table like 20-30 of them in front of different prizes. If you already hand a pump and didn't need one you wouldn't put one of your raffle tickets in that cup but, some else that need a pump would drop a ticket in and have a better chance of winning the pump, and you could have a better chance at winning some thing you need.
This, in my opinion is the best way to do a raffle that I have ever seen!
But unless you have a friend going that you trust to get your tickets and put them in the cups for you and look at the numbers wile they are being called and keep your tickets separated from theres when the prizes start getting handed out, to me sounds like it would cause problems and headaches for the volunteers running it.
Maybe the people running it will see it different I don't know we wills see what they have to say.
    Thanks Glen

Yes I am afraid that you must be present to win (or someone that has agreed to represent you). It would be adding to much to an already volunteer group to deliver raffle items if we did not require participants or their representative to be present. I am afraid that it is very hectic during the events and the staff for the event is busy enough helping with the raffle while trying to keep up with their own tickets to be saddled with that responsibility on a club level.  Now if you find someone to personally deal you into the raffle the day of the event then by all means.

I really wish I could make it. My wife's birthday is this weekend, so I won't be able to attend. It looks like the best event since I've joined! I'll catch you all at the Christmas party.

  16. Re: REEF FEST 2010 - November 20th

For anyone that can't make the event but has the evening free on Saturday and would like to talk some marine scene with our guest speaker, John Coppolino, we will be having dinner at Cajuns Wharf at 7:30 in Little Rock.  This is traditionally a great time to talk one on one with our quest and ask anything that you would like. Hope you will join us.

I wanted to say thanks to all fo thoses who put on such an AWESOME Reef Fest. As a new member I was very impressed; from the Speaker, the frag workshop (the frags), the food, raffel, The Fishbowl, but most of all for those who spent their time to ensure success.

  18. Re: REEF FEST 2010 - November 20th

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input and participation in the clubs events. Our volunteers worked very hard to put on a fantastic event. John was very positive about the enthusiasm for the hobby that he saw. All of us should be so proud of how we represent ourselves on the national scale. Events like Reef Fest with national speaker with good reviews puts us on the reefing map allowing us to make future events even better. Thank you to everyone from the participants, to the volunteers, to our sponsors and last but not least our host The Fish Bowl (Jack London). Of course I wrote Jake on his gift card envelope but what can I say:) Cheers
