Alright, so I think I'm getting one of these $1 a gallon 40g tanks from Petco. I'll probably get a 20g long with it for a sump. What size pump will I need and how do I figure bulkhead size? Also what's a good skimmer for that size?
For that size I'd suggest a minimum of a Mag 7 pump with a 1" drain and a 1 1/2" return. Might as well make sure you've got decent flow. As for a skimmer you might look at the ASM mini g skimmer. It's rated up to 75 gallons, has a relatively small footprint, and they're pretty great skimmers all-in-all.
