Yeah, I've never aimed for zero nitrates/phosphates. I've usually tried for 2-5 for nitrates but even at 10 where it is now I have very happy SPS.

So quick update. I took this offline and cut out the carbon dosing. N and P were never elevated, with P at .08 steady.

I put this back online a few months ago with pods, sand, and various algae. Within 2 weeks it was loaded with cyano and goo.

I've just left it up and running. The cyano is still there after a few weeks and it's just plain gooey nasty with a film on top of the water. I have a small power head circulating the water.

The corals in the DT (not connected to this tank) seemed to improve a bit and for fun I started to carbon dose again. Corals looked better.

However, the corals still aren't where they should be. I replaced the lights a few months ago and I'm not happy with my setup.

So while it's getting better I'm not where I want to be.

I'm really curious as to why that tank just turns into a cyano farm despite little to none in the DT.
