I believe that is a chocolate yellow mimic tang Acanthurus pyroferus. If the area is not swelled up, broken open, and the fish is not rubbing against things, I would not worry to much about it. Just keep an eye on it. If you have a cleaner shrimp in your tank, it will probably be taken care of. You are quarantining it right?

the tang is an orange shoulder. i was worried about the patch on his side. he is in the qt tank but there are no cleaner shrimp in there now. i have used copper in the tank in the past so i have not bothered adding any inverts.

Sorry about that you are right, orange shoulder is very yellow like that. Have you looked up something called black ick. Wet web media said if it is bad enough you can do a pH adjusted freshwater dip for about 5 minutes. Personally I would leave it be and watch the fish if it is not showing any signs of distress.

You might try some romaine lettuce or macro algae. sometimes that works. Also a lot of my fish will eat formula 2 flakes when they won't eat anything else. Mycid shrimp will also work sometime.

have not tied the romaine yet. will try it tonight. so far he has rejected formula two pellets and flakes, purple red and green sheet algae, mysis shrimp, emerald entry, calarpa algae, red algea plants, and just saltwater flakes. i have tried soaking most in garlic but so far no luck.

Try soaking the food in Selcon. I realize he's a (mostly) herbivore but Cyclopeeze is irresistible to most fish too. It might start him eating.

The naso we purchased in our group buy was not eating anything at first. It is eating mysis, and grazing on the rocks now, but will not touch the algae sheet I have tried to give it. It may just be stressed from all the handling. Do you have anything in the tank with it for it to hide behind/under? That may help it calm down.
