usually no local home improvement or hardware store carries bulkheads. I buy mine from flexpvc.com

Mine broke recently, and in a rush I checked everywhere on a sunday to get a new one before my tank started leaking.  Turns out a LFS is the only place to get them from and had to pick some up from my store the next day.  I am now in posssession of a few spares for a rainy day, and suggest others do the same with things like that.

Hayward bulkheads will never break or crack unless you run it ova with a steam roller. I have 2 they are pricey but well worth it.

Most of the Hayward sch 80 bulk heads require a slightly bigger hole though. I think the one inch ones will fit a "typical" 1-7/8" hole.

True but you will never worry about stuff breaking though. If I had to is get a regular bulkhead for the down pipe and a hayward for standpipe.
