at the meeting i seen a male/female set of these in chris's tank, are they reef safe? everything i have read says they will eat crabs and shrimp. i have a female i got the other day but not sure if i want to add her to my reef tank or not now. any input would be appreciated

do not add to reef tank !!! they get big quickly and eat everything. Cannot have crabs, shrimp, or worms. Definatley not reef safe.
The juvenile and females are all brown, but the males are green, they do not start showing male color till they get almost 5". Chris's is just turning now. I have one about 3" and don't know if it will be male or female. Good luck with yours they make a great fish to watch because they're always active.

  3. I treat my Bird Wrasses to hermit crabs from time to time and they will definitly remove them from there shell as a snack in no time flat. I do not have shrimp in my reef tank so keeping a bird wrasse for me is "reef safe". I would be cautious about describing animals as reef safe or not because the definition means different things to different people. All animals on a reef eat something and I think that the term reef safe most typically applies to animals that will eat or are incompatable with the more desired species in our hobby. For me bird wrasses are reef safe but if you want to keep hermit crabs and shrimp that they wouldn't be desirable.
