I moved my tank upstairs since I've been neglecting it in hopes that me sitting by it will motivate me to keep it up better. Everything went alright except for a few things: My maxima got dislodged from the rock it was attached to, and some byssal threads were hanging where it once was. Will it recover? It's temporarily on the sand bed while I rework my rock structure. Also, my big dummy self wasn't paying attention when I was siphoning water out, and I took a hunk out of my frogspawn? Should I worry? It has a hunk of white goo where tentacles used to be. Speak up, wise ones.
When the clams are collected a lot of the time the byssal threads are torn. They usually recover if that's all the damage. I've took chunks out of mine frogspawn and my hammer too before and they were fine. Just seemed to make it reproduce more heads (frogspawn) from what I saw. Guess that would depend on the extent of the damage tho.
The way to see if you damaged your clam is to look at the bottom of the clam if the byssal organ is still intact (i.e. there is not a hole where it should be). If the byssal threads were broken, it will be fine, but if you pulled the byssal organ out of the coral, it will eventually perish. If you sucked a lot of tissue from one of your frogspawn's heads, that head is probably dying. I would run some carbon to pull out anything funky in the water.
Good - looks like the organ is still 100% intact. My frogspawn looks fine today, so no worries. I must've not done much damage.
Maybe we should restrict all bike rides to marked designated trails, or issue jerseys with circle targets on their backs. Glad to hear you weren't seriously injured, patricks underwear will never be the same !!!!
