Color of sealant in aquarium?

As I've said before, I'm working on slowly putting together the things I need for a saltwater tank. I was talking to a friend yesterday and he asked me what color the sealant (i guess that's what it is?) is in the tank I'm going to use. (This tank is used and was obtained from my sister, who used it for hermit crabs, she bought it used as well) The best I can tell it's kind of a clear/greenish color. He said that if it was a bluish color that I couldn't use it for saltwater because a chemical that's harmful for saltwater tanks turns it blue.

So my question is this... is there any truth to this? And if so... how blue is too blue? I don't want to screw myself before I even get started... lol

    Thanks!

  2. might be possible some ick meds turned it blue, if copper was used might not be good - can kill corals, could be something like Methylene Blue that dye your silicone blue...

hard to say... but I think I would think hard about putting expensive corals in it .

Maybe others will have some ideas...

You can fill the tank with water, use a power head for flow, let it run for a few days than test for copper.

I ran a 90 gallon tank for three years with silicone that was very blue due to medication and had no problems with it leaching any chemicals back into the water.

Use it, won't be a problem as silicone isn't porus and probably just colored from the dye used in the med.
