Coral hitchhiker...anyone know what this is?

  1. Somethings growing on one of my SPS frags. Doesn't appear to be hurting the coral...yet. Is it some kind of barnicle? It's got 5 or 6 polyp-like heads now, seems to be growing fairly quickly. Sorry, the pics are a bit blurry. At first I thought it was new white-ish growth from the coral, but noticed the "polyps" were not the same, and it stayed white as it grew.

It is probably a new branch. That is one of the frags you got from me. The growth tips on that coral are purple.

  3. Ah. That's what I thought at first, but was starting to talk myself out of believing it. The polyps themselves just looked 'different' to me. You are probably right. It's really growing fairly quickly, so It should be obvious (even to me) when it starts to get it's 'mature' color. That tip is about 5 times larger than it was when I got it from you. I really like that coral, BTW.

I am glad you like it. When the main colony was in my 75 gal tank it grew so big I had to break it to get it out of the tank when we took the tank down.

  5. I was looking at it when I got home today (those pics were a few days old), and it's easily identifiable as new growth. The yellow-ish color is just starting to creep out onto the new branch, and the growth tip is purplish, as you said, Blake. Hope it keeps growing at this rate! SWEEEET.
