Hey, Do any of you guys dip new corals before putting them into your tank? I am trying to figure out the best method of ensuring I don't get any unwanted visitors in my tank. I see there are many different methods of dipping corals and was wondering what you guys did. I am not wanting to go the QT route for corals as I don't have good enough lighting for that in my QT tank. Thanks, James
I know its a good idea to dip sps corals to rid the chance of the dreaded red buggs! But i have never diped anything other than clams. I should do the dip, but like you I am not willing to devote the space or resources for the quarateen.
I have dipped all my stony corals. I believe it is SeaChem's coral dip. I have never dipped my clam... what do you dip it in, freshwater? I have not taken the time to order Logul's or anything beyond that. I have considered it though.
I was just wondering what folks used. I haven't dipped anything yet but as we aquired new corals there is no telling what might be living on them...flatworms, hydroids, isopods? I am looking for something I could dip any new coral (SPS, LPS, or softie) in to rid it of unwanted pests.
My research mostly confirms dip (Seachem, Lugols, Kent) if you want to but not necessary. QT and close observation for pests is necessary. Dipping is recommended more often if pests are seen.
On the subject of clams, I diped them in freash water, had a problem a couple years back with a nasty protazoan.
