Skimmer upgrade. Skimz Monster SM203 with DC motor. This gives you an idea how much bigger it is than my old skimmer. Tight fit in the sump but it fits.
Takes a little to dial in the Skimz but well worth it. Mine is unbelievably quiet and it runs 2 pumps. It will pull gunk out of fresh salt water I think.....
Good to hear Shadow. I gave it a vinegar bath last night before setting it up. Got up this morning to it overflowing. Dialed it back and it's started pulling skimate this evening. What strategy do you use to adjust yours? I've got the air thumbscrew pretty well backed all the way out, the pump on the next to highest setting and have been adjusting only with the gate valve/micro adjustment.
Sounds like you are on the right track I have the air intakes at about 3/4 open, gate about 1/2 mine is older so motors are wide open all the time. I would think the motor full speed would create more bubbles but am still old school don't have any DC motors. That is why I don't have the air intake wide open.
Skimmer is working well and most everything has recovered from the dosing accident a couple of months ago. The Sunny D's seem particularly happy. Will make some more pictures this week.
My next fish addition has completed 3 weeks in QT and is doing great. It's a nice Potter's wrasse (Macropharyngodon geoffroyi) from The Fish Tank. I've been a little afraid of trying a leopard much less a difficult leopard but this girl is eating mysis like a champ. So far, so good.
Trying a little experiment. I've put two 8"x8"x4" Marine Pure ceramic blocks in my sump. I'm trying to supply enough surface area to aid in denitrafication. The 4" thick blocks should have enough anoxic area to help with this. If it works I might stop carbon dosing (already cut way back).
I'm going to have to follow this, & read up on it. How's the tank doing? Last time I seen it, it was looking awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have the ball version. I am thinking about putting them in Alyssa's Biocube. She has Bioballs in there now but those are just Nitrate factories
(And we are getting random photo attachments appearing again. That's not my tank). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Couple pics of my recent fish additions. C. cf. lanceolatus (pintail fairy wrasse), C. jordani (flame wrasse) and a juvie Atlantic blue tang. Corey's purple acro and the birds nest babies that have been cropping up everywhere. Almost getting big enough to frag off.
Copperband BF that I got from Humblefish on Reef2Reef. CB and the Chillipepper monti I got from Greg. Same coral 2/25/14 Montis are the one thing I seem to be able to grow.
Those fish are beautiful. I've got to look at getting one of those wrasses. And when you start fragging, I'll buy a couple of those from you. I'm hoping that sps will do better in this tank, since it has a sump. The canister filter on my other tank is a nitrate factory. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
