Found this little guy in my filter sock this morning. About 1/2" long. I think it's a pistol shrimp. Amazing to still be finding new life forms 8 months after starting.

Unfortunately he wasn't. Not sure what killed him but that's probably why he went down the overflow. I know there are at least two other clear/yellow pistols in there. You hear them all the time but almost never see them.

    Hiya,

Bummer it's dead, but at last you're finding neat stuff in the rock.

I must be weird, I hate pistol shrimp. That sound doesn't bother y'all?

I have a big one and it rarely pops it's claw unless something is bothering it or near it's home.

I had one...., once, I tore my tank down until I got the rock he was in and took care of it. No more popping after that.

I've never heard a pistol shrimp, but I swear I've got a turbo snail that'd have to be the equivalent. It comes to the top of the tank and sounds like it is munching on the top. I still haven't decided if they are worth having in the tank. Two days ago one knocked an acan into my brain coral, & the brain won that battle.
