Jonathan Wright. Been lurking for a while. Had a tank eons ago and my son (6) kinda likes fish. So it was a easy excuse to get going in the hobby again. I used to race motorcycles and such, but it's so hard to be gone all weekend and with three little guys it's tough to bring with to the races...so I'm house bound more than I was.

Nonetheless I've spoken to Gregg (and visited a year ago) and that really set the hook. I bought a 40 gal breeder setup used a year ago that I had originally intended to be my QT, but my boys were all over to get it going. I didn't realize that I'm still drinking from a firehose leaning the ins and outs. Even though I don't have any corals I'm treating the water quality like I do (just have a coral beauty, crabs of various sorts, and fan worm).

So I'm about ready to start my real project. After thinking I'd put the display in my LR I've now decided I'm going to finish out my basement to create my office there. I'll be doing it a little at a time - for this, I've found not being in a hurry really pays off.

My ability to make the meetings is rather limited - but I may join next week's deal. I've schedule night work all weekend so I'll just have to see. Even though I've paid my dues you guys may not ever see me in the flesh...unless you drive by Lake Norrell on a ski/fish trip. Lemme know!

So if anyone has a 180 gal tank they'd like to drop - or related equipment - send me a note. :D

Hey Jonathan, that's what's great about the forum, even if you can't make it to the meetings. This is a great place to talk reef and get advice. So how long has the tank been running. If you've been going for a year with your rock and fish, your corals should be rocking when they go in. Love to see some pics.

yeah, saw the meeting is this weekend and I'd love to make it. I have a lot of scheduled work going on this weekend and will be staying up late the night before, so not sure as of right now if I'll be able to attend.

And I do have lots of questions as I'm scheming on installing a large tank in basement which I'm converting to my man-cave-office.

The ambient temperature is rather cools as you'd imagine, so I'm initially scheming on Mh lights to help with heat (which I'll be doing a lot of during the winter and spring for sure) and wish to ensure that it won't be making a difficult situation. I have limited ceiling space which is my initial concerns (and I know there's lots of other issues to work through as well, with humidity, space, and keeping the temp stable in the tank).

Right now I'm working on piling up the "boxes o'crap" to sell, trash, and give away so still very early in the planning process. I have a basic sketch of what I'd like to do, and where I'd like to put the tank and the supporting equipment.

And I need to determine if the walls I'm thinking to demo are not support walls, and a beam is really needed (or is just a divider for the closet I'm going to repurpose to the tank/equipment area). Stuff like that.

I'll be doing almost all the work myself so I'm not kidding myself in thinking I'l have this up in a few weeks. It'll be a year or so I'm sure to get it running, then a few months after that I'm sure to ensure it's ready for inhabitants.

I'm working on the same type of build in my basement. It is going to take me most of this year as well. So don't feel like it's taking you too long to do it. You want to do it slow and right the first time. My wall is a support wall, so that made my decision easy for me lol.
