Some macro algaes absorb phosphates or GFO works well. But as Jason implied, you need to find the source. If you are feeding flakes or pellets they could be adding it to the water. ......insert clever sign off here.....
If you get a little crazy with any food it will cause problems. Cut back on feeding. Any of the following will HELP not cure your high phosphates.... -Water changes -Growing macro algae (Cheatomorpha being very popular) -Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) - run it in a media bag or better yet a media reactor. Lanthanum Chloride - Doesn't really remove it, just binds to it causing it to precipitate out of the water column. IF you choose to go this route read as much as you can BEFORE you use it. This is often sold under popular aquarium brand names as a liquid phosphate remover.
Beanhead so what your saying is water changes, growing macro algae, and a media reactor will not help bring down phosphates? Also show I feed my clownfish every other day?
You have to find out where they are coming from first. Check list: Using RODI water? City water test? Over Feeding? What are you feeding? Over Stocked? Regular Water Changes? Rock and where did you get it? Sand bed (deep or shallow) How old? What are your other levels? I usually do not register phosphates but when I did I went nuts trying to figure out where they were coming from. Turns out... Frozen food was my culprit. The water that stuff was in was off the charts. I choose better foods and rinse when I can now. GFO Carbon Water Changes Refugiums They will all help but you must find the source or you are just putting a band aid on the problem and probably spending more money than you want to.
