My lighting isn't special, just the stock Nano lights. I have two clown fish. Is there a length of time that they need to have the lights off? What about having them on? Obviously I like to look at them but I don't want to over do it. =) I did turn the light off at bedtime last night and I've had it off some today.

  2. To help with algae growth... might try something between 8 - 12 hours on some corals need more, other require less.

I run my lights right now 9 hours on & moon lights on all night.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

Sure others will post back with advise too...

Most of us run an 8 to 10 hour photo period, Some even run upwards of 12 but thats a lil long for me. I run my softy tank on a 9 hour period and the sps tank on 10 hours. Timing is a different thing but you need to mimic natural daytime conditions. My big lights come on at 12:30pm and go off at 9:30. I supplement atinics though for an hour before and two hour after.

at 9:30 pm Halides go off
at 11:30 pm atinics go off.

Other things can become factors also. Corals, soft and hard only need say a hour of light aday, so if heat is an issue a short light cycle is needed. If heat is not an issue anywhere from 6 to 10 hrs is pretty much what most do, some out to 12 hrs.
