I don't think these are aiptasia

I bought a couple small rocks the other day with some polyps, and they all had critters on them that look a little like aiptasias. But I've spent hours looking for pics that were the same, and cant find any good or bad that look like mine. The tentacles look shorter and their are a lot more of them, and they seem flatter than the ones in the pics. Is their a good anemone that looks similar? These were obvious when I bought the rock and I  think they would have sold me aiptasia. I'll post pics when they wake up.

    Looks like aiptasia to me

Looks like mojano's to me, and bubble algae with the aiptasia. Aiptasia X should do the trick.

Just a quick note on the aiptasia-x. Make sure you cover the ENTIRE oral disc of the anemone, otherwise it won't stop the spores when they implode. Then you have more than you started with.

Does anybody know if aiptasia x can be bought in Hotsprings?

Those are Mojano.....pull those rocks out NOW!!  Don't even screw around with aptaisia x.......You are starting a battle you'll never win. Don't believe me, come see my tank!!!

you could also just get a few peppermint shrimp... worked for any ive ever had. well untill i switched tanks and the peppermints were long gone and i added new live rock that had new app

Peppermint shrimp don't touch mine......could be cause they would get eaten if they came out of the rock though. Pull the rock out and save yourself trouble later.

If they are aiptasia maybe a few berghia nudibranchs. Don't think they eat mojanos though. If an outbreak happens. (Thanks to Sam I know that)

If i remove these rocks is it safe to try to sterilize them and return them to my tank?  one of them has two zoanthids on it can they be removed without killing them?

when you pull the rocks, use a chisel to chip the rock under where the zoos are attached and then glue them to a frag plug. As far as sterilizing the rock, don't use chemicals to sterilize the rock! Most people torch the places where the aiptasia are growing. Other than that you could let it dry out, but then you have to cure it.

Agreed! Chip the polyps off, just glue them back onto another rock.....I don't think I would put them on a plug.....just a personal preference. Boil the rocks, dry them out, berry them in the back yard for a while, but the only way to completely rid yourself of them is removing the source. Live stock will not always eat them and when they do, it sometimes triggers them to release their devil spawn....same with medication.

ok this may seem really dumb but it just dawned on me are you guys saying the green ones are apastasia as well or just the obvious brown ones.... because i bought what i was told were rock anemones a while back that are green like that.... i will be very upset if its garbage.

the brown ones are aiptasia and I'm pretty sure the green one is a mojano. Here is a pic

They all appear to be Majono to me....that may just be the picture and my eyes. Aiptasia have longer tentacles and appear a light grey to darker brown or sometimes black.  But they're bad whatever they are.  I have a Majano infestation and they do generally have that green foot or base but the mouth and tentacles are brown and some even color up with a pinkish purple color.....actually very pretty.  I thought they were polyps because of how pretty they are and was very excited that the store owner just gave them to me.....Thanks Lynn!!  If you have something that looks like the photos then get rid of them ASAP because once they start multiplying it's too late.  Anemone meds and livestock will not eradicate them because they get down into crevices you cannot reach and or your critters cannot reach.....and when your critters attack and eat them they are going to release spores.  I will always have a problem and regularly you Aiptasia X on the ones I can reach.

I would not destroy my LR as all you well do is mess up the balance in the tank which has taken a longggg time to establish. First off, there is always something going on that has to be looked after. There is no such thing in a saltwater reef as no pest, either worms, algae, majono's or what not. Just go slow and don't ruin what has taken alot of time to get going. Try some aptasia X, it has worked for several people, me being one. Now is it going to take one time?, most likely no. But with persistance and time you well rid the tank, to where they may show up now and then or if your lucky not at all, it won't be overnite. It doesn't matter if they are in a crevice in the rock if the mouth is out feeding you just lay the stuff on the head and they well injest it, just make sure you do not disturb the tenacles and make them retract. Also, probably the most important thing of all is to turn off all flow in the tank for 30 minutes as the directions say, so the stuff stays in their mouth. That is probably the one biggest screwup people do and if it doesn't get eaten it ain't going to do the job. It may take more then one feeding to get them to injest enough, but it does work in time. Remember nothing in this hobby happens fast. Another product that has gotten good reviews is this [url2='http://www.marinedepot.com/Blue_Life_Aiptasia_Rx_Liquid_Pest_Control_Eliminators-Blue_Life_USA-BL2111-FIADAFLC-vi.html':1actl9xz]http://www.marinedepot.com/Blue_Life_Aiptasia_Rx_Liquid_Pest_Control_Eliminators-Blue_Life_USA-BL2111-FIADAFLC-vi.html[/url2:1actl9xz], probably similar to Ap X, I don't know.
I would suggest taking your time and be persistant in dealing with it and you should have success. We have all had them and have dealt with it

Also majano usally have more blunt tenacles and aptasia have a little longer and more pointy tenacles, and as stated above majano are usally more greenish and apt. more brownish. It really doesn't matter, as both are a pain if they are left to multiply before doing anything about it.
