Just ordered a Maxspect 250 gyre, wondering if I should have gone with two

With the 6' tank, I am wondering if I should have gone with 2 of the 250's and set them opposite of one another. Ideas, even theoretical would be helpful.

I don't have any experience with gyres but I'm planning on getting one. You'll have to let my know how you like it. I personally would try it out before getting another.

That's what I thought as well, @Botheboss . That said, I'd like to get all my flow issues dealt with early. I'd like to not use the Jebao blow stuff to hades and back powerhead if possible. ;-) It will mix saltwater quickly though I am imagining.

  4. Two.

That's my suspicion @SilentReefer . Your reasoning? One is still a LOT of flow, 5300 gph. Your reason for two?

  6. Not as much as you think because the flow is spread across several inches.

That's what I thought. How are you liking it and what size tank are you running it on?

@Fishbait I just put a Xf250 on my 120 thats 48 inches and I love the amount of flow and I don't have it higher than 30 percent. They certainly make a lot of water movement compared to a traditional powerhead. I would recommend one to start and its only 150 for the second one! I am honestly going to buy a 230 so I can have flows fighting each other to cause lots of water movement. I would pick one gyre over two Ecotech mp40s

Ended up ordering the second one on more than a few recommendations. My tank is 2/3rds full. Both pumps on at 50% made a wave my cat could have surfed. Flow will not be an issue in this tank.

@Fishbait Told you these pumps have some power to them!

@portereef yes, you did! It's gonna work out great. Just have to set them correctly. With nothing but rock in the tank, I have it set on Ocean Gyre Movement with 80 as top flow, 40 as low. No sandblasting, but it's holding EVERYTHING in suspension. Figure I will start it at 50/20 OGM when I start adding things. With two, both sides of the tank are getting awesome flow. Fairly certain that just one would have left one side of the tank blown to hell and the other getting appropriate flow.

What kind of corals are you planning on?

Zoas and maybe a leather, though unlikely for softies. Euphilia, acans, a lobo, and duncans for lps. A lot of monti's, seriatapora, and some acros eventually.

I'm very interested in how this turns out long term. I'm very tempted to try a couple of these but anxious to see how durable these pumps are.

How long do the mp 40's last? I think I heard you have to keep replacing the wet side? Is that true? I know Venessa has had the one at the fish tank for a year atleast.

Mine are over 4 years old. Wet sides are $75 for the MP40 and $62 for the MP10.
