Nice tank.  The cycle while you are gone is good, but you will need to get some one to add some fish food or something every now and then to feed the bio-filter or you may come home to a tank that still needs cycled, the bio-filter will fluctuate with the bio-load no bio-load no or little bio-filter.  IMO

Correct, the tank will need to be fed while it is cycling. I like to use coctail shrimp. Just put a couple in the tank and when they are completly gone add some more. This will give you a good bacteria bed for your return and a nice stable tank to start with. Good luck with your deployment and be safe. Thank you for serving and give me a call if I can help with anything.

I bought it from a guy on craigslist who did custom make everything except the tank which is from glass cages in nashville.  the only thing im changing on the stand is im finishing the back ecause i am using it as a room divider.  here are a few updaed pics.... got the ro/di and skimmer in last night :)

    question.
Do you think my sand bed is to thick?  it seemed perfect until I put the rock in and now it seems to be pretty thick.  its only 120lbs.

sand bed looks good to me I take it that your tank sits about 1" into the stand making your sand bed about 2" 2 1/2" ?
seem some people like 1" of sand and some prefer 2" of sand some even go for 3 or more all with there pluses and minuses.
again very nice tank looks good to me. [IMG]

few more updates... live rock all in place, aquascape done for now, protien skimmer tuned and fairly quiet, water is crystal clear, 35 gallons of spare ro water in garage and enough salt for about 250 gallons.  just waiting on wave maker, magfloat and digital thermometer to come in.

any advice? anyone need any help with projects im always down to help and/or learn...

    will

ok so if its not one problem its another.... this one is frustrating.... i cleaned the inside top brim of the tank and cleaned all the glass with the magnet... nothing new... now my whole sump if filled with suds and the skimmer is going crazy.... its almost like someone put dish soap in there... anyone had this issue before? how can it be resolved?  i have to keep the skimmer off right now because it almost overflowed the sump. now the overflow inlet to the sump is sudsing up.

    thanks

The only sudzing issues I had were one time I bought some new filter socks and they got put in the clean pile before they got washed. There was something in or on the new socks that did just what you are describing. Thats all I have had experience with.

How did you get rid of it. I think what happend was the rag I used was a new microtones one for cars. I need to remember to wash things before I use them. I guess it had stuff on it even though I just opened the package.

if it's like the filter socks, it will go away in a day or two. IME I turned my skimmer off for about 3 days and it didn't do it anymore when I turned it back on.
