Do any of you find Mythrax crabs useful? What role to they fit in a reef tank?

  2. I don't like them. I think they would probably make superb eel food. They're probably compatible with mantis shrimp, too.

My experience is that they redecorate too much.

  4. Is that a euphemism for "eat corals and fish?" ;)

  5. I have only had several and they seem to disappear only to be found when I take my tank down, for whatever reason, to find that they are huge. I have to agree with Ben and not be a big fan of them. I currently do not have much of a clean up crew, I should really think about restocking a bit.

I had one that was constantly creating rock slides.

I have several in a few different tanks and can't really tell they do anything for the system. I just think their fun to watch and have not had a problem with them. Did you know they come in red too??

    Mithrax Crabs

Yes, the Green Emerald Mithrax Crabs are actually not found in the reefs, but more in-shore. The Red Mithrax Crabs are closely related to the Greens, and are the true reef-dwellers. You can keep them both in the same tank and they will get along just fine.
