Hello everyone! I have a new Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish! I studied abit before purchase and am aware that this fish may not go to prepared foods. If this happens to be my case. I need ideas on what will be acceptable live foods. However I am going to make every effort to wean this fish to prepared foods. I will never feed any type of goldfish. Thanks in advance for the ideas.

i am no expert in marine predators but i would assume any fresh water tropical fish like platties or mollys would work. they do not have the fat reserves like gold fish and will not attribute to fatty liver decease. i would raise my own and qt before feeding for at least a month. with any feeder they are only going to be as good as the food you feed them so feed with a high quality flake or pellet to get the most out of it.

I would recommend frozen silver sides. See if he will eat those. I always heard its not good to feed freshwater fish to saltwater fish. They lack something the saltwater fish need. I could be wrong on the freshwater fish, just going by seemingly ever fading memory.

go to wal-mart get some ghost shrimp $0.26 each not a bad price just to see if it will eat them.

Ghost shrimp are not very nutritous.

Hey guys thanks for the input! This fish is going to try my patients to wits end if anyone feels confident enough and has the and patients you are welcome to him $15.
I am still a newbie and never purchased a predator before. I have learned my lesson and will make sure the fish is eating frozen food before purchase.

Have you tried dangling some food from a rod? If you can simulate the food moving, you may be able to train him to eat frozen foods.

yes! He just looks at it like what do you think im stupid. I think I will just let him go without food for a while and keep trying and maybe he will get hungry enough and take it. I wonder if adding another lionfish of different species that is already on frozen food might peek the fuzzy dwarf's intrest.
