I got a small clam and sebae anemone last week. The clam is very responsive to stimuli and I'm planning to feed him phytoplankton in a bowl outside the tank as soon as he attaches to the small rock we've placed him on. The anemone isn't fairing as well. Under the MHs, he shrinks back into the rockwork. He took one small silverside Saturday but yesterday he wouldn't take anything.
The anemone is really back in the rocks and not in the light at all. He reacts a little when food is placed on the tentacles but doesn't seem to pull it into his mouth. If the clowns are feeding it, I can't tell. The clowns are being really rambunctious in the anemone and I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. I've read everything I can find. If I can't get him to eat regularly while the zooxanthellae is repopulating, he won't last very long. If he doesn't stay out in the light, the zooxanthellae won't repopulate. Any suggestions?
In my experience with anemonies, when they start hiding from the lights they are a gonner. I have had better luck with long tenticle anemonies than any other type.
When we got home from Pittsburgh, the anemone was goo. Kathy dipped it out and the accounts we've read of dead anemones stinking are totally true.
Next anemone, you could build a cage like chris or do what I do - save some plastic boxes that strawberries come in and add more holes if needed. Place anemone inside and secure it shut, this will let the anemone acclimate without being bothered by their host fish.
Contrary to the advertised description of the sebae I bought, this one was bleached from the beginning. They are VERY difficult to bring back to health once they've expelled their zooxanthellae.
