hey marti check out this site www.porcupinepuffer.com they say that puffers dont eat coral b/c they are carnivores dont know about shrimp yet i just recently set this second tank up for the puffer and 1 damsel the other pix are from my reef tank the dragon goby is one working dude he has cleaned all of my sand back to original color in less then a week it is like having 50 small snails he is awesome
I had a striped dogface puffer, quite docile and shy in nature. I did an experiment, I moved him to a reef set up and he did nip actually bite chunks out of some corals. The toad stool leather and the green capricornis comes to mind. I hope you have better luck than I did. The thing is there tooth is constantly growing like a rodent. So they are like a puppy constantly chewing/teething in a way. Priovide meaty foods feeder clams , anything that can keep there tooth worn down some. I fed mine regular grocery store shrimp with the shell still left on it, or pet store frozen krill, I did not thaw it out, just droped it in frozen.
yeah ive been feeding him krill since ive had him i still havent put the shrimp in yet to see but im working on it
you could get a lot of cerith snails for your reef and let them get established and breeding, then feed your puffer those every now and then also.
Down the line I may set up a puffer tank. I just don't want to chance one, even as cute as they are, when it comes to my corals.
yeah beanhead that i a pretty good idea since everyone keeps tellin me this lil guys teeth are gonna keep growning if i could toss in a few snails everyonce in awhile i could probably keep that buck tooth thing under control and it not hurt like hell when i did try to feed him good call bh
i bought some half clams at the lfs for a good sized bag is like 6 bucks so that will do for sometime now w. the krill he seems to enjoy them crunch crunch
