No... Its better... Any time you can over filter the better. Most of the awesome SPS tanks you see have sumper skimmers and ultra high filtration. Nothing can be bad about getting the cleanest water possible.
That skimmer would be great for any type of tank most likely. Overskimming isn't a problem unless you WAY overskim and you don't keep up with your chemistry.
