    Hiya,

Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but looks like I'm going to have to change salts again. Kevin's supplier doesn't always have Tropic Marine. I had to try something different last week, picked up Seachem's salt and didn't like it. Didn't mix clear/well and left a residue after I mixed it. I was wondering what you thought of those two salts Michael?

I have always used Instant Ocean and over the years have had good results. I have used IO Reef Crystals also, when Greg won that million gallons at MACNA. Instant Ocean is always consistent and I have been pleased, and it is always available.

The Fish Tank has a ton of Instant Ocean right now for $10 a bag, I believe a bag will make 50g. I use the seachem right now and like it. Haven't noticed the white residue like I did with Red Sea Pro but with salts everybody has their preferences, I think it's like Scott Fellman said at Reef Splash, just find one you like and build a loyalty to it. Sorry Kim, I know that question was for someone else.

    HIya,

I used reef crystals for years too, but I was having issues with keeping my PH, Alk and Calcuim up. So switched. Had good results with the tropic marine...my rock is nice and purple already. Sigh...I may just have to play hit or miss again until I find one that Kevin can get reliably.

    Hiya,

Well, I thought I was going to go with the Fluval salt, but Kevin can't get that on a regular basis. These are the three he said he can get from his main supplier, Red Sea, Oceanic, and Kent Marine. He can also get seachem, but I'm not happy with the bag I got. It didn't dissolve all the way.

    So, opinions on these three?

Do the red sea coral pro. It dissolves good I liked it alot. Or you could try the new salt the fish tank is carrying. I used oceanic when I first set my 10 up years ago. It was OK. I truly hated the Kent salt did not dissolve properly the water was cloudy for a week.

I think your tank will like the Red Sea Coral Pro. I know a lot of beautiful tanks that use it. I would get some residue build up in my buckets when I used it but overall tank did well.

I would go with Red Sea pro also. I talked to one of the reps from Red Sea. It is specifically designed to use as soon as mixed. That's why it starts to get the white residue after a few hours of mixing. If you let your salt mix for a day or two it's not the salt to choose but if you mix and use, it's good stuff.

    Hiya,

Thanks guys! Knowing I can use it right after mixing it is good.
