i was up at nsa and seen their angel they got in so i decided to learn alittle more about them. scott said they generally arent reef safe but almost all sources online are saying they are eh safest large angel you can buy. has any one had any experiance with these guys in a reef tank? i am seriously considering making one of these my accent fish for my tank when i set it up.

  2. Well it is three weeks since you post and the Regal Angel is still their at NSA. I have seen him eat which is the major problem with this beautiful angel. It is very difficult but once they eat they do very well and do well in a reef. The problem that I have is forking out the 100 bucks for a single fish - which based on internet pricing is a a steal right here in our home state. If someone were going to purchase an expensive fish this would be an excellent one to go after because it is feeding/inexpensive respectively/has acclimated to a captive environment/ ect. I have included a picture of a Regal Angel not the one at NSA just as a reference to what the angel looks like you are asking about.

It should not be a problem as long as you do not have a lot of zoanthids. I am not sure if it will mess with SPS or LPS though. I had a queen angle and she mowed down all zoanthids and palythoas in my tank. Luckily they were just common green polyps, so I did not mind so much.

i am still planning on bringing this beauty home with me. i am racing the clock getting my big tank up and going quick enough to get her before someone else does. when i took the other two tanks down it left me limited for fish real estate so im trying to wait it out. i am three weeks out from being set up hopefully [IMG].

chirs if you advertise my fish again im going to have to pay a thug to take your knees out lol. nah if someone wanted it he is right. its healthy and has aclimated. to me its worth giving up zoo's to keep a fish that good looking but i am going to try my luck anyway and hope it leaves mine alone.

I have had my Regal Angel for over a year now. Have not had any problems with her jacking with corals. They are fairly shy fish. It also helps not to have any over aggressivie tank mates. I would recomend a mature tank with plenty of sponge on the live rock. A regal takes quite some time to adjust to feedings....It took at least six months to get mine hitting anything I threw in the tank. At first she niped at the live rock then after a week or so started on the sea weed selects(nori) then clams on the half shell then frozen brine, mysis blood worms...and finally flakes and pellets....That was a six month process. Good luck!
