Return pump failure

So I think my return pump went out. I've got it tore apart right now, letting the propeller soak in vinegar before work. But if it doesn't work, I am going to have to do something fast.

Any recommendations on pumps and how to minimize loss of livestock until I get the new pump? And is the return tubing a standard size on all pumps? I just want to make sure whatever I order is good to go since I'll be ordering it at work at like 2am.

I've got a Sicce Syncra 3.0 you can borrow. It's what I use to transfer RO/DI and salt water to different containers/tank. I can do without it until you get your new pump. If you have good flow/oxygenation and stable temps you should be ok for a while.

I'm a big fan of the Sicce Syncra pumps. I did switch to an Ecotech Vectra on my DT but there was nothing wrong with the job my Sicce pump did. Slightly audible compared to the completely silent Vectra. My Sicce pump had been running continuously for 3 years with only one cleaning that I remember. Solid, dependable pumps.

Thanks David. I'll probably order a Sicce in the morning. How do I know if I'm getting the right size? The pvp pipe with the shut off valve has a 1 inch opening when I measured it. As long as that'll screw into the pump, I should be good to go.
I put a powerhead in my sump just to keep water circulating. I'll move my heater into the display tank tomorrow and maybe add a powerhead towards the surface so I can keep oxygen going.
And I'll rush ship the pump, so hopefully it'll all be alright.

Size is in GPH and would be determined by tank size and overflow capacity. Which tank is this on?

Most have standard pipe thread sizes. You can get the appropriate connecter at Lowes/Home Depot/etc. I use flexible tubing with barbed fittings but many people hard plumb there return.

I think I figured it out. The input pipe is 3/4" and the outlet is 3/4". I just want to be able to plug it up when it comes in. And it's going on the 93 gallon. If the echo tech is that much better, I don't mind to pay a little more. I'm going to order one this morning though and try to get it here asap. (As long as it ain't like $50 shipping).

Edit: I believe this is the pump currently on it. So 950gph.

The eco tech is a 2000 GPH pump and overkill for a tank that size. It's also 3X the cost (or more). It is controllable but that's a lot of pump for a 93 gallon.

Yeah I'll go with one of the others. But is the measurements on the pvc pipe what I go by? Like if it says 3/4", that's what pump size I should use? Sorry. I'm bad at plumbing. I just want it to fit on existing plumbing.

I ordered the Syncra Silent 4.0 pump. It's a 951 gph. The outlet is 3/4", so I should be good. The inlet is 1", so I ordered a new elbow fitting, just to make sure. I also am paying the $34 for next day air. We do it all the time when ordering corals online, and hopefully I'll be able to get my tank running by tomorrow. I'm going to move the heater into the display and add another powerhead this morning. The fish still have some nori, so I might let them eat on that until tomorrow just to cut down on waste in the tank. Thanks for your help David. Hopefully I've got it lined out.

Are you using it as a submersible pump? If so you won't need a fitting on the inlet.

Yeah its submersible. The one I was using had one on it, that's why I thought I needed it. I didn't understand the purpose of it, but thought it might've served something. I guess not lol.

That's just there if you want to use it in a"dry" or external application. The water intakes on the Sicce are those vents on either side of the top of the pump.

Just got my pump in. Water is flowing through my tank again. Thanks! This pump is silent too! Made my system much more quiet.

Quick question. Do I set my dosing pumps to auto or on on the apex? I forgot and I know one way will keep them running. I think it's supposed to be auto.

Auto runs whatever program you have written. On means the pump runs till the reservoir is empty or till you turn them off!:(

Glad you got everything up and running. I bet the tank never knew anything was wrong! Good job!

Thanks David! So far everything is looking normal. Most of the sps I bought awhile back has encrusted the frag plugs. So maybe I'll have some red planet frags or something for like the Christmas party lol.
