I just received a shipment of snails and two peppermint shrimp. The shrimp were about 1.5" long. I have yellow and blue tangs and a Royal Gramma. My supposedly herbivorous tangs almost immediately killed the shrimp. Expensive food...

My shrimp disappeared right after adding the tang. Tang will eat brine shrimp, because I've seen him. He loves the vegies too. I pretty sure Tang ate my shrimp :(

About a year ago I had a yellow tang that slaughtered about 6 skunk cleaners  . I traded a freind of mine a yellow longnose butterfly. that wouldnt eat and died but anyways the tang ate about 3-4 of his shrimp. he finally got flushed but he didnt believe me.

Fish are basicly opertunistic feeders! They eat what is available at any givien time. My reasioning would be the need for protienes in the diet to rebuid tissues.

Some other factors would be tank size and how often the tanks are fed. My tangs gladly munch on the cyclopseeze, frozen mysis, and frozen brine along with flakes and pellets. It's also my understanding that the tangs need the veggies for the vitamin and mineral content to prevent HLE.

Oh yeah mine ate his regular stuff and even had one of those nemo clips w/ seaweed on it all day and all night and he still chose those shrimp he was a evil little yellow tang. But I had a scopas tang that was the nicest fish in the world but wouldnt eat a damn thing. Its funny how fish are when you take them out of there habitat and throw them in a aquarium you never know what your gonna get. but thats my 2 cents take it or leave it. But scuba you are right :D
