Just got my second MP40 for my tank and set them up yesterday. I've tried them on Tidal Surge mode, Reef Crest and short pulse mode. I already can see better polyp extension on my SPS frags (was running 4 Koralia Mag 5's-1600gph)

What modes do you guys with Vortecs use? I've cranked them all the way to full power without any sand displacement. What power settings would you recommend? Tank is 72 X 24 x 21, I have the heads about 1/3 down the glass on opposite ends of the tank and they are staggered so they're not pointing directly at each other.

I use random reef mode at 75%. I only have 1 mp10 in my 65g. Not sure if that helps much.

Actually it does John. I had come to the conclusion from watching my Hammer and Frogspawn on opposite ends of the tank that that program game me the best and most erratic flow. I may use the nutrient transport mode for a while before filter sock and water changes but the random reef crest mode seems like the best for now.

Anyone else use Vortecs? I know I've talked to Cory about it.

I barely hit 50% between my two before things look like they are holding on for dear life. I have it on Lagoonal and like the randomness it provides.

Do you have MP40's or MP60's? 250 gallon? I may be able to turn them down a little. I have them at close to 90%. One of my Gorgonians (the one not shielded by a rock) has decreased polyp extension the last day or two. I also have a ridge in my sand bed from a little sand movement. My Frogspawn isn't quite as full as usual (could be my imagination). The Acro's and other SPS seem very happy with the exception of one of my birds nests that has one branch with some loss of PE.

I replaced four 1600GPH Koralia's with the two 1000-3200 GPH MP40's and assumed I needed almost full speed to equal the flow I had with the Koralia's. I'm beginning to think there is a difference in how flow rates are measured by different companies.

I run my mp10 at 35%. If I run it at too high, I notice the dry side becomes pretty hot and since I've done alot of electrical work on the farm with similar sorts of devices, heat is your worst enemy on these things. So if you can get away with less I would recommend that. Otherwise enjoy yourself!

Anyone ever run the NTM(nutrient transport mode)?

I ran that a few hours last night and I was amazed at the junk going down my overflow. You will have to change filter socks and empty the skimmer cup if you use this long! I think I'll run it a few hours every week and see if it continues to do this.

May be a good reason to go to Vortec pumps. The more I hear about them the more I feel they are the way to go for reef systems. Don't know if they would be a big benefit in a frag system.

I think they would. I saw a frag system in Texas with 3. It looked really good. No dead spots very nice extension.
