What do you dip your new coral in?

I got a new acro today and dipped per my routine in CoralRx. After the dip there were 9-10 ant sizes pods and 4-5 times that number of chigger sized pods. There were also two tiny brittle stars(still alive and went in the sump).

Put the coral in the tank and was about to take some pics when I noticed a weird looking brown spot down in the coral that was moving. It was a 3/8" crab. Maybe an acro eating crab? Should I have expected him to bail during the dip or is that something you only get out by inspection and manual removal? I swear I looked hard at the coral and didn't see any of that stuff!

I use bayer complete insect killer. It kills everything, we'll probably not eggs. But you have to be very careful using it. Always were gloves, and you must thoroughly rinse the coral. I did a lot of reading before making the decision. The only thing I know of that claims to kill eggs is All Out and there's just to many mixed reviews.

Will it kill/drive out crabs? May have to try it though this is the first critter that has escaped my regular dip (it's eliminated eucinid worms, nudi's and worms)

I know it sounds crazy, and if anybody has had a negative experience please chime in. A lot of reefers are using it as a dip now. I have seen it kill crabs, bristle worms, pods, stars, nudibranchs with no I'll effect on the coral itself. The one negative experience I had was when I got in a hurry and didn't rinse the coral well enough. It wiped out the pods in my tank, however my CUC was never effected. That's why I say it must be well rinsed. Just type in a search for "bayer coral dip" and start reading. You can pick it up at Home Depot.

True, was the crab smooth skinned or hairy? Light or dark colored?

He was hairy, brown and had almost black tipped claws. I tried to catch him and put him in the sump but he got wedged down between branches of the coral and I guess the hemostats were a bit too crude to bring him out alive.:D

Alive, man I've got a much different opinion about hitchhiker than others. It maybe a gorilla crab, which is not good. Some people follow the rule of smooth keep hairy kill. I just don't take chances with them. An acro crab is often a white or cream color. It is smooth skinned and has a black stripe across the eyes like a bandit.

The pic isn't showing up on my phone
